Saturday’s conference matchup against Buffalo was more than just another meet for eight members of the Ball State women’s swimming and diving team.

Seniors Sumaiyah Ahmad, Jackie Iglesias, Cheyanne Jackson, Mallory Miles, Haley Richter, Bridgette Ruehl, Stacey Wierman and Emily Wisolek were recognized for their contributions to the program.

Though the Cardinals dropped the meet by a score of 135-165, four swimmers captured individual victories. Four others set season-best times.

The meet began with the 200-yard relay of Miles, Ruehl, Richter and Carlena Magley finishing in second place with a final time of 1:45.98.

In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Kayla Hussey posted a season-best time of 10:48.94 to place second, while Jackson and Leighann Mattson finished third and fourth, respectively.

Richter would give Ball State its first victory of the day as she finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.16. Sophomore Larah Beaver finished in second place with a season-best time of 58.56.

Richter also posted a season-best time of 55.75 in the 100-yard fly on her way to a second event win.

Wierman also grabbed two season-best times. She earned her first victory of the season with a 2:22.18 in the 200-yard breaststroke. She came in second with a 2:12.21 in the 200-yard IM.

A week after dropping her first individual race of the season, Ruehl got back on track by winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:05.25.

Horn edged out Miles in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:09.19.

Beaver continued her performance on the day by finishing second in the 200-yard backstroke with a season-best 2:09.08.

Ball State will conclude its regular season in the Ohio State Winter Invitational next weekend.
