The Ball State women’s basketball team fell to 1-4 on the season with a 51-67 loss against Auburn in the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas.

The team shot just 31.9 percent from the floor compared to Auburn’s 46.4 percent.

Seniors Katie Murphy and Brandy Woody were a combined 0-10 on field goals. Junior Brittany Carter went 3-of-13, including going 2-of-9 from 3-point range.

The lone bright spots for Ball State came from the underclassmen, as sophomore Nathalie Fontaine and freshman Jill Morrison led the way in scoring for the Cardinals. After tying her career high against Detroit Mercy a week ago, Fontaine nearly did it again. The Sweden native scored 21 points off 6-of-9 from the floor. She added nine points from free throws.

Morrison once again showed her prowess from downtown, scoring 15 points with a trio of 3-pointers.

Next on Ball State’s schedule is another game in the South Point Shootout as the team takes on Tennessee Tech at 3 p.m. Saturday.
