Returning to his home state, comedian Jim Gaffigan made a stop to campus Friday on his White Bread tour.

Gaffigan is known for his goofy, clean humor about family and food. As a father of five children, Gaffigan routinely jokes about having a lot on his plate.

“I thought he was very funny,” Ellen Lee, a junior education major, said. “I liked how he was conversational and clean.”

Gaffigan also mentioned alumnus David Letterman. Gaffigan has appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Muncie resident Mike Ihnat has been a fan of Gaffigan ever since his Comedy Central special in 2000.

“I have all of his specials memorized,” Ihnat said. “I love how he is hilarious [and] weird and still clean at the same time.”

Most of Gaffigan’s jokes come from everyday life. from the awkwardness of weddings to eating unhealthy.

A favorite topic of his is boycotting healthy food.

“Can we please stop with the kale propaganda?” he asked the audience during one of his jokes. “No one likes kale. Bragging about eating kale is like bragging about SAT scores.”

For the show at John R. Emens Auditorium, Tom Shillue kick-started the night at 8 p.m. Shillue is a stand-up comedian who has appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
