Two matches into the season, Ball State volleyball doesn't know what it feels like to drop a set.
Ball State swept Citadel in straight sets to improve to 2-0 on the season never allowing Citadel to score more than 15 points, winning (25-11), (25-14), and (25-17).
Jumping out to a quick 8-2 lead in the first set, the Cardinals took advantage of the Bulldogs mistakes.
Citadel had just six kills in the first set, to go along with four attack errors. Ball State’s lead peaked at 23-8 late in the set, before kills from Kelly Hopkins and Mackenzie Kitchel finished the set, who finished with attack percentages of .400 and .364 respectively.
Ball State’s attack percentage was .419 compared to just .085 for Citadel.
The second set started off more competitive, as the teams traded points until Ball State led 11-10, then head coach Steve Shondell’s team took over. Ball State went on a 10-1 run to increase the lead to 21-11 before going on to win the set.
Kills from Kylee Baker and Hayley Benson started off the third set before Ball State worked a 15-5 lead, with Jacqui Seidel leading the way to the third set victory with 26 total assists through the match.
The Cardinals success was enhanced by the Bulldogs offensive inefficiency. Through the three sets, Citadel had just 18 kills on 81 attempts to go along with 17 combined attacking and blocking errors.
Ball State finishes its Tampa trip with a match against South Florida tonight at 7 p.m.
