A retired Ball State dance professor has recently contributed to the establishment of a $25,000 scholarship fund.

The Lou Ann Young Ballet Scholarship will help benefit students who are studying dance at Ball State, a program that Young is responsible for helping develop throughout her time at the university.

Young graduated from Butler University and studied at the National Ballet School in Toronto before joining Ball State's staff in 1987.

Young was also the artistic director of the department's dance company for 18 years, and choreographed each semester of her career.

She retired from Ball State in July 2012.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be a dance major, demonstrate outstanding talent in ballet, as well as be active participants in the university's dance program.
The recipient of the scholarship will be selected during each Spring Semester after receiving recommendation from the Ball State Dance faculty.

The scholarship will go toward the student's senior year of study.
