This year's homecoming theme, "Play Your Cards Right," promises a good time with many of the favorite events from previous years. The events will take place from Mon., Oct. 8 through Sat., Oct. 13.
"Homecoming is the biggest week at Ball State," Tim Stravos, Statesmen member, said.
There will be many student groups involved this year, and most are enthusiastic about getting involved on campus and getting their names out to the university community.
Statesmen, a new male singing group, is proud to represent itself this year. Stravos said he is "stoked" to sing in the parade and introduce Ball State to his organization.
Other organizations are also hoping to have their group recognized.
"We think it would be really neat to see Cru get involved on campus," Allison Carr, Cru member, said about the organization's involvement this year.
Fellow Cru member Abby Savage said, "I feel like [homecoming] is going to be a catalyst, and we'll just sort of move through campus and be really approachable."
Angie Hosbach, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member, said, "We're just trying to get our name out there and get more involved with activities on campus."
The feelings of anticipations are no different for members of the board, either.
Robert Saxon, Residence Hall chairman, said he is "absolutely excited" for homecoming this year. He decided to get involved because "it was something [he] could carry forward in [his] college experience."
"I thought [what they were doing with homecoming] looked really cool, and I wanted a way to be involved at Ball State," said Air Jam chairman Shelby Johnson.
Homecoming is not just a way to show off your Cardinal pride, however.
Megan Downey, company major for University Singers, said, "It's a great way to get close [with each other]."
On Monday, Tour of the McKinley Strip (picture hunt) and Homecoming Village will kick start the week.
Others among the list of scheduled activities are the faculty/staff breakfast, residence halls dinner and talent search on Tue., Oct. 9. Wed., Oct. 10, there will be a blood drive and the Stop, Drop & Dash charity run.
The Ball State favorite, Air Jam, will be on Thur., Oct. 11, as well as the Royalty Coronation, in Emens Auditorium. The bed race and BSUAA Alumni Awards Dinner will both be held on Fri., Oct. 12.
For the concluding day, Sat., Oct. 13, the annual homecoming parade will begin at ten in the morning, and the homecoming game against Western Michigan will commence at three in the afternoon.
"It's a blast to actually be a part of it," said Shaun Jenkins, Statesmen and Phi Mu Alpha member, said.
