Ball State Career Center names new director

The new director of the Career Center plans on taking more initiative and raising awareness and engagement among students and staff.

"I would like for the Career Center to be a part and a discussion for all of the students here," Jim McAtee said. "The main goal of the Career Center is to provide opportunities for all levels of students."

On the first day of classes, the Career Center was busy. McAtee said he was happy to see such a great engagement and involvement by the students at the center.

After his first day went smoothly, McAtee said his new position is a "perfect fit and a great feeling."

McAtee attended East Carolina University where he earned his Master of Business Administration. He started out as a career counselor then was recruited into the business field.

While he said he had a great job in the business field, he added he felt fulfilled in the career counselor field. McAtee was most recently the director for the Career Center at Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne. However, his previous supervisor saw a lot of potential in him and thought he would be a great addition to the Ball State faculty.

After his first week, McAtee said he is eager to be at Ball State. He said he plans to get involved with events outside of the center as well.

He said students would see him at some basketball and football games rooting for the Cardinals.

McAtee said he isn't someone who stays in the office.

"You'll see me out and about," McAtee said.
