The Spectrum Prom will create an experience that is similar to that of many high school proms, but it will have one major difference: acceptance.
"This will be a GLBT friendly event," Tyler Quear, Spectrum president, said.
The event will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Ballroom.
Unlike high school proms that typically carry a high ticket price, Spectrum's High Rollers Prom will be free.
"All you have to do is show up in formal attire and ready to have a great time," Quear said. "This event brings to life the idea of having a prom that welcomes everyone and anyone, no matter their sexual orientation."
According to Quear, Spectrum Prom is held every spring and is one of "the biggest and most enjoyed events of the year for Ball State students and people in the Muncie community."
Because many high schools have policies against same-sex attendance or did not offer a safe environment for GLBTQ students to attend prom, this event gives students another chance.
This event will also include the crowning of royalty, which could include a queen and queen or a king and king.
Students of all sexual orientations are invited to participate in Spectrum events.
