INDIANAPOLIS- Lawyers for U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar are arguing that local elections officials disenfranchised the long-time politician when they ruled him ineligible to vote.
Lugar's team is set to make its case in Marion County Circuit Court on Friday.
The Marion County elections board ruled this month that Lugar and his wife are ineligible to vote from the Indianapolis home they sold in 1977. Lawyers for the elections board argue that the narrowly crafted ruling did not disenfranchise Lugar.
Lugar is facing one of his toughest election battles in the Republican primary against state Treasurer Richard Mourdock.
The elections board ruling has given fresh ammunition to critics who have accused Lugar of being out of touch with the state.
