WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals looking for second straight win

Ball State hosts lowly Buffalo in first part of doubleheader

After breaking a five-game losing streak against Kent State Wednesday, sophomore guard Shanee' Jackson and the rest Ball State women's basketball team (8-14, 3-6) will attempt to dig in and continue fighting in the Mid-American Conference. It takes on Buffalo at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In Wednesday's game, the Cardinals made 56 percent of their attempted shots, their highest total all season. Ball State held a 21-point lead at halftime. Sophomore guard Brandy Woody tied her season-high in assists with seven.

She also had seven on Nov. 19 against Murray State.

Jackson led the Cardinals with 16 points against the Golden Flashes. Senior forward Suzanne Grossnickle also chipped in statistically with 13 points and 11 rebounds, her second double-double of the season.

Buffalo is 6-17 on the season, 1-8 in the MAC, last place in the East Division.

One of the keys to victory for the Cardinals will be containing senior guard Brittany Hedderson is leading the way in scoring for the Bulls with 20.7 points per game, including 31 in their last game at Western Michigan.

In order for Grossnickle to repeat Wednesday's performance, she will have to contend with Buffalo's senior forward Beth Christiansen Saturday afternoon. Christiansen had just three rebounds and five points in 32 minutes against Western Michigan.

Sophomore forward Jazmin Hitchens is leading Ball State in scoring with 10 points per game, but she has been in a slump recently, scoring just 12 total points in the last three games. The Cardinals could use a boost from her to help

secure a much-needed victory.

Second on the team in scoring is freshman Brittany Carter with 9.5 points per game. Although she scored just five points in Wednesday's loss, Carter has put up double digit point totals in four of her last five games.

With a win today, Ball State would move to 4-6 in the conference, 9-14 overall.
