Check out a list of the Top 5 strangest smartphone apps as compiled by reporter Anna Ortiz.
5. Pull My Finger
Believe it or not, there was an actual lawsuit battle over this phrase. When separate iFart creators used the term in their advertising, Pull My Finger creators attempted a $50,000 suit for trademark infringement and lost. The app itself features a finger that if "pulled" produces flatulence noises. Never has a courtroom resembled a second grade classroom so much.
4. Drunk Dialer
OK, so it has the best intentions. The approach, well it's about as well thought out as the act of drunk dialing itself. The app makes it so the user is required to hold the phone steady in order to dial, which is just an act of reality. Foreseeably, those drunk enough to not think about incoherently calling their ex-girlfriend at 2 a.m. probably won't think to activate the app before that crucial moment either.
3. Hold On!
For true challenge and adventure seekers out there, this is not the game for you. A finger outline appears on the screen and the player puts there finger on it and holds it...and holds it...and holds it. Then the screen tells you how long your finger has been on that spot. Maybe they'll make it simpler and make an app for the iPad that has a rear-end imprint.
2. Hang Time
Cost of App: 99 cents. Cost of new phone when it splinters to the ground: Priceless. Let me explain, this app measures how high and far the user can throw their fancy iPhone before gravity strikes. I guess Apple is really taking their namesake and Newton's first law very literally.
1. SimStapler
This app brings all of the ecstasy and joy of using a stapler without actually employing the office tool for its actual use. That's right: go ahead, indulge. Heighten your wildest dreams by successfully pretending to staple two pieces of paper together with a cell phone. Or as the creators of the app put it, "SimStapler brings all of the thrill and excitement of a ‘real' stapler right to the palm of your hand." Because actual staplers cannot fit in the palm of your hand? Am I missing something?
