Group to address expanding Cardinal Cash

For students wanting to change the way Cardinal Cash works, there is a group whose main focus is to do just that.

The Cardinal Cash Task Force will meet at 8 tonight in Bracken Library room 301 to discuss how to change Cardinal Cash.

The group wants to expand its use on-campus to the bowling alley and concessions at sporting events. They also want to expand it off-campus so students can use their Ball State ID like a pre-paid debit card.

They want to make adding money more accessible. The only way to add funds now is to mail a check or walk to the bursar's office.

Kevin Thurman, chairman of the group, said that a lot of research needs to be done in order to complete their goals. Right now, they are looking at a list of universities that has plans similar to the one they want to enact.

Thurman said that people who think expansion of Cardinal Cash is impossible are wrong.

"It is a feasible option. It occurs at numerous higher learning institutions across the nation," he said.

Thurman said that he would like to see new faces but is happy with the people who are a part of the group.

"The people we have are very dedicated," he said.

He said the key to changing Cardinal Cash is piecing other universities' plans to make one that works for Ball State.

The Cardinal Cash Task Force will be meeting at various times throughout the year. Thurman said he wants to emphasize that it is a student movement they are looking to push forward, and they still have to get their plan approved by school administrators.
