Career panel to offer advice for transitioning from college

During a career panel tonight, students will learn about transitioning from college life to the workforce.

Brandon Bute, assistant director of the Career Center, said some of the topics to be discussed include communication, investing in the future, professional environment, courtesy and balancing work, and social and family lives.

"There's a number of issues that we face as we transition into work for the first time," Bute said. "It's always kind of a shock for students who all of a sudden don't have a spring break or don't get four weeks off. That's kind of a shock to their system. [The panel will discuss] how to manage those issues as they transition into life after college."

The panelists include Jenny Pyle, senior public relations major, Charles Cherry, Knotts/Edwards hall director, and Josh Aber, owner of Shelter Insurance.

Pyle has recently received an internship and will provide students with advice on professional work environments. Cherry is a recent graduate of Ball State and is currently making the transition from college to work life and Aber is a "seasoned employer," Bute said.

"The panelists offer a unique perspective," said James Mitchell, senior assistant director of the Career Center. "It's an important topic. The transition is one of the more difficult things. It's not too early to think about that transition."

Mitchell said all students are encouraged to attend the panel because the information can be useful when having an internship as well.
