Student Government Association wants to invite all students to start their day with a free breakfast from 7:45 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Scramble Light.
There will be free doughnuts and muffins so students can meet SGA senators and voice their concerns, ask questions and find out what SGA is, said Chris Buck, SGA vice president.
Buck said the breakfast is meant to build a connection between senators and students.
"This is a really good opportunity for senators to get their name out and connect with [their] constituents," Buck said.
Kayla Stanton, SGA president, agreed the breakfast is a perfect way to meet with students.
"We wanted to find a way to reach out to students instead of having students come to us, and a great attraction is a free breakfast," Stanton said.
The SGA executive board will fulfill one of its platform points with the free breakfast.
Stanton said she wants the event to send a message of openness to the students.
"We exist to meet their needs, to address their goals, their aspirations, and it lets them know we are serious about that," she said.
Stanton said she wants the students to be able to talk to them, but realizes some students may not have the time to seek out SGA. That is why she believes in bringing SGA to the students.
"I hope they realize we exist for them," she said. "We are an organization for the students, by the students and we wouldn't have a purpose without the students, and we want them to know that."
Stanton also said she wants students to know that they always have a chance to talk to SGA either by coming to the office or sitting in on one of the organization's weekly meetings on at 3:15 p.m. Wednesdays in L.A. Pittenger Student Center Cardinal Hall B.
"If students want to get involved in student government, there is always a way," she said.
