Hot 30 | Ball State Village

Milhaus Development announced this week that two new businesses signed leases in University Square, both of which plan to open later in the Fall Semester. Cleo's, an Irish pub owned by The Silo owner Chris Ellison, is scheduled to open in December and Cardinal Cupcakes and Coneys is scheduled to open on Martin Street in about three weeks.

Melissa Bucur, owner of Cardinal Cupcakes and Coneys and a Ball State alumna, said she wants to see the Village restored to its former glory. When she graduated in 1997, she said the Village was bustling with Ball State students.

"I was at college for four years, and we used to go to the Village all the time," she said. "That was the place to go and eat, meet your friends and work on projects and just, kind of the place to hang out."

Bucur said since then, the Village has gone downhill, but she thinks Milhaus Development will be able to rekindle what once made the area successful.

Students discuss their views on the upcoming changes to University Square and what they like and dislike about the Village.
