FOOTBALL: Central Michigan extends lead to 14 points at halftime

Central Michigan extended its lead against Ball State to 17-3 at halftime with its second touchdown drive of more than 90 yards Saturday.

The Chippewas took advantage of another big play given up by the Cardinals defense, scoring on a 60-yard pass from Ryan Radcliff to tight end David Blackburn.

Ball State got on the scoreboard as the half ended with a 25-yard field goal from Steven Schott.

The half has been an extension of Ball State's recent struggles at home. Since the start of the fourth quarter against Army on Sept. 24, the Cardinals have been outscored 73-6 in Scheumann Stadium.

Very little has gone right for Ball State today. Coach Pete Lembo called for a fake punt, which picked up 28 yards and a first down to open the second quarter, only to see the effort wasted by Keith Wenning's sixth interception of the season. A long punt return by Jamill Smith that would have given Ball State possession deep in Central Michigan territory was negated by a block in the back.

The Cardinals have struggled running the ball, which is surprising because the Chippewas gave up 350 rushing yards last week. Ball State has just 39 rushing yards in the first half, 28 of which came on the fake punt.

Wenning has completed 13 of his 22 passes for 125 yards. Jack Tomlinson is Ball State's leading receiver with four catches for 79 yards.
