KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Despite another poor start, Ball State is tied with Western Michigan at seven after the first quarter.
The Cardinals have struggled in the first quarter this month and appeared to be in another funk today. The Broncos took an early lead on a 40-yard pass from Alex Carder to Jordan White. White broke a short screen pass into a long-gainer, just the kind of play Pete Lembo said Ball State needed to avoid giving up this week.
After a three-and-out by the Cardinals' offense, the defense came up with a much-needed big play. Cornerback Jason Pinkston forced a fumble and defensive end Ryan Hartke fell on the ball near midfield. Ball State took advantage of the field position and running back Jahwan Edwards capped the seven-play drive with an eight-yard touchdown run.
The fumble was the fourth Ball State has recovered in the last three games.
