FOOTBALL: Ball State trails Central Michigan early

Despite a big win at Ohio last week, Ball State has been unable to carry that momentum into this afternoon's game against Central Michigan. The Chippewas shook off poor field position twice in the first quarter to go on two scoring drives and lead the Cardinals 10-0.

Ball State started the game well, as Jamill Smith returned the opening kickoff 48 yards. But the Cardinals wasted the field position and were forced to punt. Central Michigan took over at their own 11-yard line and drove 62 yards before David Harman kicked a 45-yard field goal.

The Chippwas also put together a 93-yard drive, capped by Ryan Radcliff's 19-yard touchdown pass to David Blackburn.

It is the fourth straight game in which Ball State does not hold a lead after the first quarter.
