'Unstrung' puppets perform uncensored

Henson Alternative present improv comedy show at Emens

In honor of the late Muppets creator Jim Henson's 75th birthday, students are invited to attend a more grown-up puppet show at Emens Auditorium tonight at 7:30. In Henson Alternative's "Stuffed and Unstrung," you won't see Kermit, Miss Piggy or any of the original gang you remember from your childhood, but you will meet 80 of their uninhibited cousins.

As an improvisational comedy show, the show is fueled by audience participation as well as the comedic process of six puppeteers. The actors are free from the conservative leashes that generally regulate puppet behavior which means nothing is off limits.

During the two-part show, the puppets are projected on screens for a traditional view. On the stage, the actors bringing the puppets to life are in full view, letting the audience watch the action that takes place behind the scenes.

Sarah Chaney, senior Japanese and creative writing major, had never heard of the show before but said it is something she would be interested in seeing.

"I love things that are funny, and it's different," Chaney said. "I don't have any special attachment to puppets, I just think it would be something different and unique."

Morgan Webster, junior telecommunications major, had never heard of "Stuffed and Unstrung" either, but was intrigued by the idea of puppets performing improv sketches.

"It sounds like it's going to be something different for Ball State students," Webster said. "Students love to see comedy, they love to see the audience interact [with the performers] and [their] puppets."

These puppets are unfiltered and uncensored. Containing adult language and material, "Stuffed and Unstrung" is meant for a mature audience.

Students can buy their tickets for $10 at the door and faculty and staff members' tickets are buy one get, one free.
