Royalty Fashion Show to kick off Homecoming events, announce top 10 king, queen candidates

The Royalty Fashion Show has been a tradition at Ball State for 72 years, and homecoming king and queen candidates are going to continue the tradition tonight.

Couples will dress to impress and strut their stuff down the runway to show off their creative and glamorized costumes at 7:30 p.m. in Pruis Hall. Admission is $1 at the door.

"I'm excited about seeing what ideas everyone has come up with for the fashion show," Essence Vinson, queen candidate for the Black Student Union, said.

A variety of different themes will be shown throughout the event, and many students will dance their way down the runway.

"Dairick Wade and I are going to be Will and Jada [Pinkett] Smith," Vinson said. "We're going to pick some characters that they've done over the years."

At the end of the show, a panel of judges will announce the top 10 king and queen candidates based off online votes from Sept. 12 to 16.

"I really hope I win, but I'm just super honored to be nominated on behalf of the Black Student Association," Vinson said.

The top 10 candidates will meet with the judges at the Homecoming Faculty/Staff and Royalty Social, and be interviewed by them later in the week.

"Last year, a total of 466 people came, and we are expecting the same crowd this year," Meaghan Sigman, chairwoman for the Royalty Fashion show, said.

The king and queen will then be crowned at Air Jam, on Oct. 6.
