About 11,000 people who use the Jackson Street Bridge every day are finding alternative routes due to construction.
On Sept. 12, the Jackson Street bridge closed its road for approximately 300 days to replace the bridge. The bridge is more than 70 years old and replacement will cost an estimated $3.1 million.
Angela Moyer, project director at the Delaware County Engineering Department, says that she hasn't heard any complaints, but detours are posted to guide traffic around the ongoing construction.
Teresa Brown, code enforcement officer for the Department of Public Works, said she thinks the construction will be a major inconvenience not only for her but also for everyone else.
"Not only is there construction on the Jackson Street Bridge, there is also construction at the intersection of Jackson and Morrison, which causes a lot more traffic than normal," Brown said.
