Comedian Michael Palascak to bring laughs to Ball State

Rising stand-up comedian Michael Palascak is scheduled to perform at Ball State on at 8 p.m. Saturday in the John R. Emens Auditorium as a part of Family Weekend.

His "down-to-earth" and simple persona, along with his college-related youthfulness, has brought him to perform at such venues as the Improv Club, "The Late Show with David Letterman," Just for Laughs Comedy Festival both in Chicago and Montreal, and also on Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham" TV special, his website said.

Palascak has also received praise from comedic critics from the Chicago Reader magazine and HBO. His comedy often stems from stories from his years in college and real life situations that young adults, especially college students, can relate to in their own personal life.

However, many students are not aware or have little knowledge about Palascak coming to Ball State.

"I have never heard of him, ever," sophomore medical technology major Ashley Tulacz said. "The only time I have heard of him was once by [my] hall director and that was for like only a few seconds, so now it's just a faded memory."

Tulacz said if Palascak's humor relates to her life as a busy college lifestyle, she would go to his show.

She wasn't the only student who is not familiar with Palascak's comedy.

"Yeah, I have never heard of him," senior general studies major Darrell Bryant said. "I watch Comedy Central here and there, and see some new comedians perform that I like, but I haven't seen him nor heard his name ... if I did, I wasn't paying attention or he wasn't that good."

But some students are pleased to hear Ball State is hosting a stand-up show that's free for students and only $5 for guests for Family Weekend.

"If the show is for free for us students, I wouldn't mind going to it at all," Tulacz said. "I mean, you might as well take anything for free these days as a college student, right?"
