Firefighter dies in Muncie church fire

A report says a firefighter has died in a Muncie church fire after the roof of the sanctuary collapsed.

The Star Press reports that Delaware County Deputy Coroner Jim Clevenger confirmed a firefighter had died.

His identity was not immediately released.

The newspaper quotes a radio dispatcher as reporting the firefighter went missing after the roof collapsed about 15 minutes after the blaze was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Tabernacle of Praise Church on the city's south side.

The Muncie Fire Department enlisted the help of nearby volunteer departments to bring water to the scene to fight the fire.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms sent an agent to the scene.
