WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State takes 10th in Indiana Invitational

Incliment weather reduces holes from 54 to 36

The Ball State's women's golf team tied for ninth at the Indiana Invitational at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind.

The Cardinals carded a total team score of 57-over-par 633. Louisville took first in the tournament with a score of 17-over 593.

"We left a lot out there today," assistant coach Mary Carmody said. "We didn't play up to our potential."

Due to inclement weather, the original 54-hole tournament was reduced to 36 holes. Cold temperatures and strong winds struck during the second round.

"It was cold and windy," Carmody said. "It was a grind for a lot of them."

Senior Brittany Kelly showed why she was honored last week as the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week, tying for eighth overall with a nine-over 153. It is her seventh top-ten finish this season.

"[Kelly] did what she's been doing all year," Carmody said. "Her last six [holes] were even par and finished with a birdie."

Junior Katie Windlan and freshman Meghan Perry tied for 36th with a 16-over 160.

"Meghan really stepped up and tied for second [on the team]," Carmody said.

Sophomore Autumn Duke managed a 19-over 163 and senior Rachael Pruett scored a 20-over 164. Freshman Sarah Westaway competed as an individual and managed a 22-over 166.

Ball State will switch its focus to competing at MAC Championships on April 22 in Nashport, Ohio. Since it is the last event of the season, Carmody said the Cardinals, especially the veterans, are ready to play their best golf.

"It's the last tournament for the seniors and they are motivated and focused to play," she said.
