SOFTBALL: Cardinals blank Golden Flashes in rain-shortened doubleheader

Sanders throws three-hit shutout in win over Kent State

The rainy conditions couldn't stop Ball State's offense in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Kent State.

But it did stop Game 2 from being played.

Despite a cancellation in Game 2 of the doubleheader against Kent State due to inclement weather, Ball State kept its smile and rebounded from a 3-0 loss to Indiana on Wednesday in a 10-0 thrashing of Kent State.

On the day, Ball State had seven hits and five walks in 16 at-bats.

Junior catcher Amanda Montalto led the way offensively for Ball State, going 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Two of those RBIs were the result of a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Junior second baseman Alison Mercado added two RBIs of her own off of a single in the bottom of the first.

Sophomore right- handed pitcher Audra Sanders picked up her 15th win on the season after throwing a dominant three hit-shutout in five innings of work.

Ball State returns home Saturday to play Buffalo. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
