Ball State men's golf took advantage of playing on its own course over the weekend.
The team won the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational with an overall team score of 1104 (+54).
Bowling Green came in second, nine strokes behind Ball State, with an 1113 (+63).
Ball State was also allowed to use a B-team in the field, which finished tied for 7th with a score of 1144 (+94).
Senior Eric Steger won the individual championship for the tournament with a score of 214 (+4) in his final home tournament.
"Coming into today's tournament, I never had a career win," Steger said. "That was at the top of my goals list, and to do it in front of my friends and family was definitely a cool moment and I'll never forget it."
It was the 12th time in 13 seasons under coach Mike Fleck that a Ball State individual won the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.
"You couldn't have written a better script," Fleck said. "He has put so much into our program in the last four years, and it's nice to see him finally get a win."
Freshman Tyler Merkel finished in second place trailing by one stroke at an overall 215 (+5).
Sophomore Alex Stinson tied for 10th with a 220. Sophomore Joe Gasser tied for 20th with a 226. Sophomore Tony Lazzara tied for 38th with a 230 and sophomore Brodie Williams tied for 50th with a 234.
For the Cardinals' B-team, junior TJ Carpenter tied for eighth with a score of 219, junior Zac Treash tied for 20th with a 226, fifth year senior Wes Phelps tied for 26th with a 227, freshman Connor O'Neal tied for 54th with a 235 and Anthony Novak tied for 61st with a 237.
The Cardinals will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. It will be their final tournament before starting the Mid-American Conference Championships in Maineville, Ohio.
