Homecoming provides something for everyone

It's not only an week of celebration and showing Cardinal spirit, but it was also voted by students as the Ball State's best annual event.

Full of events, games and football, the 2010 Homecoming Steering Committee titled the week of events "Rock the Red" and are pleased it won Best of Ball State.

"I think that's very exciting, the whole Steering Committee did a lot of work," Chanel Richards, general chairwoman, said. "We strive with every event during the week of Homecoming to provide something for everyone."

Kait Buck, flag football chairwoman, said every year she waits for the sense of community that Homecoming Week brings about.

"It's something everybody looks forward to," she said. "We get a lot of funding, so we are able to do some really cool things."

One of the reasons Richards said she thinks it was voted No. 1 is because there is something for everyone on campus to enjoy during Homecoming.

"We try to provide something for every different group on campus, every person and include everyone," she said. "We think of events that everyone will think are exciting and fun."

Out of all the events during the week, Richards said the football game and Air Jam are the most popular.

"The football game is something that everyone looks forward to," she said. "A lot of alumni come back for the game and the parade."

Air Jam is so popular that the event is sold out in advance, Buck said.

Other events are growing in popularity.

"There was a really good turnout at Talent Search last year," Buck said. "We did some new things and publicized more."

The Steering Committee members said they were happy with the success of Homecoming.

"We strive to be the best event on campus and are meeting our goals," Buck said. "It's exciting to be part of something so successful, and the students love it so much and voted it No. 1."

Buck will be the 2011 publicity chairwoman and said the week should be just as good this year.

"I definitely [think] it will [be No. 1] again," she said. "I will make sure of it."
