WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: MAC announces new location, format to tournament

The Mid-American Conference made changes to the women's volleyball  tournament official Tuesday morning.

In a press release, the MAC announced a new home for the tournament as well as a new format. Eight teams will now earn berths into the tournament instead of all 12.

Initial discussions about a format and location change began two weeks after the conference tournament ended in November and quickly moved forward in January.

Spire Academy, located in Geneva, Ohio, will host the tournament for the next two years. Spire takes over hosting duties from the SeaGate Centre in Toledo, Ohio, which hosted the tournament the past six years. Geneva is located about 45 minutes northeast of Cleveland, the headquarters for the MAC.

Tiebreaking procedures for the eighth and final spot in the tournament are unknown at this time.

Calls to the MAC, Ball State athletic director Tom Collins and Ball State coach Steve Shondell were not immediately returned.
