WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Alyssa Rio racks up another award

Alyssa Rio's award winning days are not behind her yet. The senior libero was named to the Collegiate Volleyball Update Stellar Spiker First Team Monday.

Rio was named to the first team after winning the Libero of the Year from CVU. A total of 103 student-athletes were named to the first and second teams as well as an honorable mention list.

NCAA statistics, conference awards and player impact were factored into the CVU decision. The first-team honorees were selected on the basis of whom CVU wanted to build a team around at each position.

Rio and national leader in digs per set, Taylor Root from Valparaiso, were the two first-team honorees at libero.

No other Ball State women's volleyball player made the list.

Katie Post, outside hitter/middle blocker (Ohio); Haley Stein, libero (Eastern Michigan); Sam Viox, setter (Western Michigan); Sue Jacobi, outside hitter (Ohio); and Lauren Wicinski, outside hitter (Northern Illinois) were the five other Mid-American Conference players honored by CVU.
