Muncie paints the town green for parade

St. Patrick's Day parade gets assistance from youth organizations

It's that time of year to pull out the green shirts, festive hats and Irish accents for the 30th annual St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Muncie.

"It's an evening parade that allows us to bring people downtown for dinner and a lot of the bars have celebrations for the parade," Cheryl Crowder of downtown development partnership, said. "Lots of green to be found."

Many public officials running this election year will walking the parade, Crowder said.

Youth organizations will also participate in the parade, including the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts.

Crowder, who has been with the parade for 10 years, said she is excited for it to be held on the holiday.

"For years, it was done on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, but this year it is on the actual day," she said.

The parade drew over 1,000 people last year and Crowder is expecting an equally strong turnout this year, especially with the nice weather.
