MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Nittany Lions sweep visiting Cardinals

Ball State falls to 11-8 with loss

A shot at revenge fell flat for Ball State on Friday.

No. 9 Penn State swept unranked Ball State 3-0 (25-18, 36-34, 25-17), ending the Cardinals six-match non-conference winning streak.

The loss pushes Ball State to 11-8 overall, while Penn State improves to 16-5. The win also marks the Nittany Lions sixth consecutive win at home.

In spite of the loss, Ball State's offense performed well, especially through its middle attackers. Seniors Anders Nelson and J.D. Gasparovic combined for 14 kills and a .591 attack percentage in the match.

Outside attacker Greg Herceg followed them with a team-high nine kills.

Penn State's Joe Sunder paced the Nittany Lions with 17 kills on 24 attempts for a .542 success rate. He also led them on the defensive end with a match-high eight digs.

Ball State will end its road trip in a match against Saint Francis today at 7 p.m.
