Daniels seeks federal assistance for 39 counties

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mitch Daniels is seeking federal public assistance for 39 Indiana counties that were hit by ice and snow storms early last month.

If approved, state and local governments and certain non-profit organizations could apply for federal assistance to pay 75 percent of the approved cost of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster and repairing or replacing roads, buildings and utilities.

The counties are: Benton, Boone, Brown, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Fountain, Franklin, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Jay, Madison, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Randolph, Ripley, Rush, Shelby, Starke, Sullivan, Tipton, Union, Vermillion, Vigo, Warren and Wayne.

A major winter storm Jan. 31-Feb. 4 was blamed for at least two deaths in Indiana.
