Cold weather returns to Indiana behind severe storms

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — A wave of severe thunderstorms that brought large hail and high winds to central and southern Indiana left uprooted and toppled trees in some areas and ushered sharply colder air across the state.

Noblesville Fire Department Division Chief Rick Russell tells WIBC in Indianapolis that several trees were uprooted in a housing subdivision north of Indianapolis. He says some fallen trees caused minor damage to some Hamilton County homes.

WIBC reports that there were reports of hail about 1.75 inches in diameter in Montgomery County northwest of Indianapolis.

The storms pushed across the state in advance of a cold front that brought an end to the 70-degree readings Indiana residents had enjoyed for much of this week. Temperatures were forecast to remain in the 30s and 40s on Thursday.
