Telecommunications major Kevin Kitt is used to the weird stares he receives when he first mentions his beat boxing. Until he is in front of a microphone, many just see him as one of the crowd. Once he is on-stage, however, a confident beat-boxer named Raven-K emerges.

"Ravens are symbolic for keeping and communicating deep secrets, and are known for their wit, like my rap style," he said. "I like to call it my ‘stage-name.'"

Kitt started listening and appreciating rap and hip hop music during high school. It did not take him long to start writing poetry, which eventually turned into song lyrics.

"Rap, to me, is poetry, only with a beat in the background. I used to write poetry all the time back in high school, but we all know how high school is," he said. "It's really pressuring as far as your social standards go. We all want to ‘fit in' in high school."
