Since I was anonymously in two articles in the DN, I will tell you the story as it happened.
I was on my way to a studio class from my apartment in Scheidler. I was walking across an open parking lot to the bus stop when I fell and fractured my left wrist. I was taken to the main office and from there taken to Ball Memorial Hospital by ambulance, since there was no way any car could be cleared off or even dug out within a reasonable amount of time. Fortunately it was a fracture in the right place, so I do not need surgery.
When I learned that classes were only cancelled until 11 a.m., I was upset because I felt unsafe traveling across a solid and slippery sheet of ice to the bus stop. When I tried to go out around 2 p.m., I fell and this whole story began.
I think it is unwise for Ball State to put their students, especially those who live off-campus, in the position of choosing either their safety or possibly failing a class. I felt extremely guilty when I could not go to class, even after I broke my wrist. I am very disappointed with Ball State.
