MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State upsets Hawaii in Outrigger Invitational

14th ranked Cardinals shock 6th ranked Warriors

It was supposed to be a match that Ball State would be too exhausted, inexperienced, and overmatched to win.

The Cardinals never got that memo.

Ball State defeated Hawaii 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-17) in its first match of the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii on Thursday night.

The Cardinals were led by sophomore outside attacker Greg Herceg's career-high 10 kills. Senior middle attacker Anders Nelson added in eight kills of his own as well as nine blocks in the match.

Ball State ended a eight game losing streak against Hawaii as well as a 0-4 streak against the hosts of the match with the win.

Ball State will face UCLA in its second match of the Outrigger Invitational tonight and will play in its final match against Penn State on Saturday.
