FOOTBALL: Ball State loses in-state recruit, adds defensive end

Lembo picks up his first commitment as BSU football coach

The transition period of coaches led to the departure of an Indiana recruit just weeks before the national signing day.

Devin Scott, a tight end from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, switched his commitment from Ball State to Western Kentucky over the weekend. Scout.com lists Scott, at 6-foot-3 inches, 235 pounds, as a two-star prospect.

Scott originally made his oral commitment to Ball State on Nov. 3, just weeks before athletic director Tom Collins fired Stan Parrish as football coach.

The departure leaves Anthony Kukwa of Perry (Ohio) High School as the sole tight end recruit for the Cardinals.

Coach Pete Lembo did pick up a commitment over the weekend from defensive end Nick Miles out of Eastern Alamance High School in Mebane, N.C.

Miles had committed to Lembo while he was at Elon, and the two-star prospect will follow Ball State's new coach to Muncie. He also had an offer from Duke.

According to Scout.com, Ball State and its 16 recruits are the second-highest rated class in the Mid-American Conference, trailing only Central Michigan, which currently has 22 recruits. The Cardinals' Class of 2011 is ranked No. 81 in the country.

Players can begin signing their letters of intent Feb. 2.
