Ball State asks students to help with fundraising

Ball State's Annual Giving department is trying to collect 21,000 donations in the next few months, and they're asking students to help.

If the university can raise $5 from 21,000 people, an anonymous donor will add another $1 million to the pot.

"Five dollars goes a long way, and outside entities look at that," Berger said. "They ask themselves, ‘If alumni don't give back, why would we?'"

Annual Giving has already been promoting the giving campaign during football and basketball games, and now it's turning to students to help raise money by making a promotional video to send to alumni.

Sign-ups start today and run until Valentine's Day, then students have another month to create a short video. The winning team will receive Flip video cameras for each person.

"At most institutions, it's younger alumni that are being targeted because they'll be more excited about a video," Berger said.

The video should evoke Ball State pride and a desire to give. The video isn't for one-time use, Berger said. He hopes the Alumni Association can use it for future campaigns.

About 11,700 donations have already been made, he said, and about 9,300 still need to be raised by June 30.
