The Muncie Action Plan is receiving $22,000 from the Ball Brothers Foundation to support its projects to improve Muncie.
The Ball Brothers Foundation announced its cycle-two grants, which give more than $600,000 to local, regional and state nonprofit organizations. Other organizations benefiting from grants are Ball State, Ivy Tech, the Muncie Children's Museum and the Muncie Arts and Culture Council.
"MAP's initiatives, particularly those dealing with education, health and neighborhood development, clearly reflect our priorities," said Jud Fisher, Ball Brothers Foundation president and chief operating officer.
The Muncie Action Plan is a yearlong initiative that involves the community to plan changes in Muncie.
"We're very pleased [with the grant] because we needed the support," said George Branam, co-chairman of MAP.
The philanthropic Ball Brothers Foundation was established in 1926 and benefits various nonprofit groups and organizations throughout the state of Indiana "through philanthropy and leadership," according to the foundation's website.
More information regarding these programs will be available at a city-wide meeting to be held Nov. 30 at Minnetrista. After the meeting, individuals will split up into five or six small groups to discuss individual initiatives.
Branam said the money will be used across all of the program initiatives, especially to get part-time help to coordinate volunteers, which make up the bulk of MAP staff.
Branam said the Ball Brothers Foundation has been the primary donor for the MAP so far. The organization is working to set up a way for individuals and businesses to donate to the organization as well.
