Flower sales help Muncie cancer patients

An annual poinsettia sale benefiting local cancer patients is in progress until Tuesday.

The sale, a fundraiser held yearly by Little Red Door of East Central Indiana, helps cancer patients in the Muncie community. Little Red Door is a nonprofit focusing on education and support for those diagnosed with cancer, their relatives and the community.

The proceeds help patients and their relatives with the cost of medicine, treatment and transportation.

Denise Hurt, administrative assistant for Little Red Door, said participating in the poinsettia sale has some added benefits other than simply helping cancer patients.

"It's a way to give back to the community," she said. "It's a good way to give back and learn more about our agency."

The organization sold around 1,250 plants last yea and typically sells around 1,200 on average, Hurt said.

Poinsettias are available in several colors including red, pink, white and marble.

The poinsettias cost $15 each or $12 each for orders of 25 or more. Order forms are located in the Art and Journalism Building Room 300 and can be found online at littlereddooreci.org. Orders can be picked up Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at G&M Garden Center, located at 2014 N. Walnut St.

Orders of 25 or more need to be placed by calling 765-284-9063.

Hurt expressed her gratitude to anyone who has helped, is helping or will help Little Red Door, not only with the poinsettia sale but also through volunteering or donations.

"I'd like to thank everyone that constantly supports our agency," she said. "We're really grateful for that."

Anyone with further questions regarding orders, volunteer service or donations can contact Little Red Door by calling 765-284-9063 or sending an e-mail to info@littlereddooreci.org.
