FIELD HOCKEY: Cardinals ready to open MAC play

Ball State will play Ohio in first-round action

The Mid-American Conference Tournament starts today as Ball State plays Ohio at 1:30 p.m. in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

The Cardinals are the No. 6 seed in the tournament after finishing the regular season 2-8 in conference play. The Bobcats are the No. 3 seed.

Ball State and Ohio played twice in the regular season. The first time the teams met, Ball State was shut out 7-0 at Ohio as Cathryn Altdoerffer recorded a hat trick for the Bobcats. Ohio also won the second meeting 3-1.

Maura Sawicki tallied four defensive saves for the Cardinals.

Coach Beth Maddox said she doesn't care about Ball State's previous games with Ohio this year, saying the Cardinals will be ready.

"I don't care who we play. We are going to win" she said. "Bring it. Whatever you have got we will take it."

Ohio won the MAC Tournament last year and has won the tournament four times in the past 10 years.

The winner advances to play No. 2 Miami at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
