WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State looks to stay on a roll

The Ball State women's volleyball team looks to continue its winning ways on the road at Miami and Bowling Green.

A pair of victories would keep Ball State in the Mid-American Conference West Division race. Also, a win against Miami would continue a trend of the road team winning the past four matches, while beating Bowling Green would snap a six-match losing streak to the Falcons.

"I'm not too concerned," senior defensive specialist Hannah Sullivan said. "I'm more concerned about us and making sure we're ready to play rather than being concerned about the other teams."

This type of philosophy has paid dividends for Ball State this season. The Cardinals (16-4, 6-2 MAC) haven't gotten caught up in who the opponent is.

Just because the focus has been placed on Ball State doesn't mean coach Steve Shondell or his team isn't aware of how dangerous their opponents are.

"Last time I saw, Miami beat Ohio worse than we did," Shondell said. "Bowling Green had set point three times in three different sets against Western Michigan before it slipped away. It's going to be a war this weekend."

Miami and Bowling Green have combined for 14 wins this season, two fewer than Ball State. Even with both teams having a down year, Ball State wants to avoid underestimating anyone.

"Even if we know they're not as good as us, we have to think they're better than us," freshman defensive specialist Catie Fredrich said. "We need to get in, win in three sets and get out. We can't let them hang around."
