MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Two late touchdowns in the third quarter gave Ball State a 28-3 lead at Central Michigan going into the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals' first touchdown of the quarter came on an 80-yard run by David Brown. It is the first touchdown of his career and the Cardinals' longest play from scrimmage of the season.
The Chippewas' drive immediately following Brown's run was cut short by defensive end Andy Putoff's first career interception. It was the second Central Michigan turnover of the game.
Ball State took advantage of the good field position and scored again on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Keith Wenning to running back Eric Williams. It was Williams' third touchdown of the game.
It is the first time the Cardinals hold a lead after three quarters since Opening Night. Ball State went on to beat Southeast Missouri State for its only victory of the season. Should the Cardinals hold on for a victory today, it would be just their second victory against the Chippewas in seven years.
Central Michigan's best opportunity to score in the third quarter came after advancing to Ball State's 25-yard line. But two incomplete passes, a holding penalty and another sack from defensive end Robert Eddins ended the threat. Eddins has 3.5 sacks today.
