Ball State students compete for scholarships in bean bag tourney

Dust off your cornhole skills for Saturday.

The Ball State Student Foundation's second-annual Scholarship Cornhole Tournament will take place at 8:30 a.m. on the Alumni Center lawn.

Tournament champions will receive a $500 scholarship while second through fourth place finishers will receive gift certificates and cash prizes.

Chelsea Carstens, senior biology major and event chairwoman, said there were about 20 teams last year, and this year the expectation is for around 40.

"It's right before the game, so people can play and then go to the game from there." Carstens said. "It's a fun thing to do with family, and it's a cheaper option than some of the other things to do in Muncie."

There is a $20-per-team entry fee. All proceeds from the event will go to fund student scholarships.

Brandon Roos, a junior landscape arcitechture major, said last year he and a friend won the tounaments' loosers bracket and encourages other to sign up for this year.

"I was in it last year and had a lot of fun," Roos said. "People should sign up because it's a way to get involved with the different foundations on campus."

Ball State students and their family or friends are welcome to participate. To do so, they need to either go online or to the Administration Building Room 216 to fill out an entry form by Thursday.

Carstens said the event is a great opportunity for students, especially as an opportunity to participate with family members who are visiting.

"A lot of BSU students aren't from around Muncie, so it's important to hangout with family while they're here," she said.

Entry forms can be found at bsu.edu/web/studentfoundation and turned into the Administration Building.
