Amazing Taste to feature dishes from around the world

Ball State students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to experience international cuisine, culture and entertainment from more than 25 different countries in one evening.

The Amazing Taste: Global Food Fair and iFest will take place in the lawn between DeHority, Park and Woodworth halls from 5 to 8 p.m. today

"Students have the opportunity to try new things that they may have never tried before," said Liz Poore, assistant director of operations for Ball State Dining. "Our goal is to make the food as authentic and as good as possible."

Amazing Taste is sponsored by Dining, the Rinker Center for International Programs, the Multicultural Center and the University Program Board.

Poore said in addition to food, there will be activities and entertainment representing different cultures. Some of the activities include a steel drum band, salsa dancing, henna tattoos, sword fighting exhibitions, hair braiding and camels. Students will be able to take pictures with the animals.

Dianna Lampitt, assistant director of programs for UPB, said 19 different meals will be provided, and those who attend will have the opportunity to try as many foods as they want.

"We are trying to represent the different nations and international cultures that are represented at Ball State," Lampitt said.

Lampitt said the event is expected to bring around 3,000 attendees.

The cost to attend for Ball State students is $7.55 or a meal card swipe. The cost for non-Ball State students ages 13 and older is $8, ages 5 to 12 is $5 and 2-year-olds and under are free. "This will be a really fun event," Lampitt said. "Everyone should come out and have a good time."
