A member of the Ball State football team accused of punching a patron at a local bar missed practice this week after he was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery.
Senior Kreg Hunter, 22, is the starting center on the football team. He was accused of hitting Levi Partin, 24, after a confrontation with Partin and Partin's friend.
Officer Richard Little of the Muncie Police met with Partin at Ball Memorial Hospital before speaking with Hunter later that morning, according to a police report. Partin said his friend bumped into Hunter and said he was sorry. Hunter started yelling at the man. Partin then made a vulgar comment to Hunter, who then proceeded to punch him on the left side of his mouth, Partin said.
Little returned to the bar after talking with Partin. He was told Hunter hadn't been there in hours. Hunter was found upstairs and was questioned about what happened.
Hunter said he and Partin had been drinking and talking back and forth. He said Partin swung at him, and he responded by punching Partin in the face.
The officer said Hunter could also file a battery report but said Hunter made no comment about his intention to file a report.
The football team did not respond to whether he would play in Saturday's game at Iowa. Hunter was not seen Tuesday at football practice.
Hunter was booked in Delaware County Jail at 3:48 a.m. Sunday. He posted a $250 bond and was released at 5:02 a.m.
