INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The State Budget Committee will meet Wednesday to discuss a new report outlining possible cost savings if Indiana schools and public universities would join the state's public employee health insurance plan.
Senate Appropriation Chairman Luke Kenley chairs the committee and says lawmakers are looking for all ways to stretch tax dollars given the prolonged recession. Kenley says he believes the report will show opportunities for significant savings as lawmakers begin the early stages of creating the state's next two-year budget.
Legislation passed in 2009 ordered the independent analysis of health insurance benefits.
