Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named Ball State University second baseman and starting pitcher Kolbrin Vitek a first-team All-American on Thursday.
Vitek was selected at the utility position for two-way players and is the first Cardinal to be named a first-team All-American since Brad Snyder was in 2003. Vitek is just the fourth Ball State baseball player to become a first-team All-American, joining Snyder, Bryan Bullington (2002) and Thomas Howard (1986).
Vitek was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year last week. The junior hit .361 with 17 home runs and 68 RBIs. On the mound, Vitek had a 3.28 ERA in 79 2/3 innings. He also had a 3-4 record and three saves.
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper was among various publications that named Vitek a preseason All-American this year.
Monday, Vitek will join Snyder, Bullington and Howard as first round draft picks in the MLB Draft. He will likely become the seventh Cardinal selected in the first round.
