SOFTBALL: Ball State defeats Kent State to win MAC championship

For the first time in 12 years, the Ball State University softball team is Mid-American Conference champions.

Ball State defeated Kent State University 5-1 in the MAC Tournament championship game on Saturday in Akron, Ohio, to clinch its second conference title in program history.

The Cardinals' two-run first inning was enough for starting pitcher Elizabeth Milian.

Milian held the Golden Flashes to five hits and had nine strikeouts in her fourth complete game of the conference tournament. The senior was named the MAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after finishing with a 4-0 record and a 0.25 ERA in 28 total innings.

Kent State scored its lone run in the fifth inning to cut Ball State's lead to 2-1.

Ball State added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning with a pinch-hit RBI single from Lisa Rozanski. Rozanski, who finished with a game-high four hits, also added a RBI in the sixth inning as the Cardinals scored two runs in the inning.

With this victory, Ball State will receive the MAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament Regionals. The Cardinals' tournament seeding and where they will play in the regional round will be announced Sunday evening.

The NCAA Tournament Regionals will be played next weekend.
