Ball State campus police still investigating thefts on Scheumann Stadium

Ball State University Police Department is still investigating a series of thefts that occurred in the Scheumann Stadium parking lot.

On the morning of May 1, University Police found four suspects stealing from unlocked cars parked in the parking lot.

Further investigation led to the discovery of more than 100 hand-held electronic devices in one of the suspect's vehicles, Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said.

Four victims initially filed reports for goods stolen from their unlocked cars and seven more have filed reports of goods missing from their cars. Dozens of vehicles may have been entered, according to a public safety notice sent out the morning of May 2.

Cars also may have been entered in the neighborhoods north of Fraternity Row, the McKinley Avenue parking garage, the H-4 parking lot east of DeHority Complex and the R-2 lot south of LaFollette Complex.

There have not been any court proceedings for the 4 suspects yet. Burton said these are still in process.

Burton said so far, about 10 or 11 of the found items have been returned to the victims. In a public safety notice, Burton said the main concern of University Police was that not all the victims would be identified and have their property returned to them before the end of the Spring Semester.
